Community power - renewable energy in real people's hands

Community-owned energy installations have the potential to transform our energy system. Many such initiatives exist but to become more widespread, they need legislative and public support, especially in central and eastern Europe.

Across Europe citizens and communities own or participate in the production and use of sustainable energy. This way they not only increase their own energy independence, but also contribute to a transition to a fossil free energy sector.

A number of barriers exist that make community power projects more difficult to implement - from administrative burdens, to lack of public support, to an unfavourable set-up of the power grid.

Bankwatch teamed up with a number of European organisations to help overcome these hurdles and enable legislation that helps increase community ownership for renewables projects across Europe.
